Aurum in umbra (Auksas šešėlyje)

Aurum in umbra (Gold in the Shadow)
The moment darkness becomes a refuge.
This work is the second part of an artistic journey, capturing a decisive turning point: the transition from fear to unconditional self-acceptance. While the first piece of the cycle, „Ouroboros mordere parat”, carried tension and readiness for spiritual transformation, „Aurum in umbra” marks the moment when the storm subsides, giving way to profound inner calm.
At the heart of the work is a personal dream that became its central symbolic key. In it, something psychologically impossible takes place: the Ego and the Shadow embrace. On the canvas, this state is held as a kind of „numbness”. It is not paralysis born of fear, but a gentle, existential relief, when darkness, instead of consuming, becomes a safe refuge. The Shadow turns into an inner protector, and fear gives way to a sense of happiness that fills body and soul.
In C. G. Jung’s analytical psychology, the Shadow is not only made of negative traits. It also holds suppressed creativity, strength and authenticity, the so-called „golden shadow”. The title „Aurum in umbra” points to an alchemical process: the greatest value, and love for oneself, is found precisely where we are most afraid to look.
„This is a story about the moment a person accepts that their darkness and their light come from the same source.”
